Rumours have been circulating in the social media that Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya will be appointed as the Islamic affairs advisor to the Head of the State, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, beginning next year.
The 43-year-old prominent Islamic scholar will end his duty as the Perlis Mufti end of this year.
Juanda, a Sibu-born, confirmed to the New Straits Times that he was moving back to his hometown but declined to elaborate on his new appointment.
“Alhamdulillah, I have received the consent from the Raja of Perlis (Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail) to end my services as the Mufti for the state beginning Dec 31.
“I had served (as the Perlis Mufti) for six years beginning 2009.
“God willing, I will report for duty at the Sarawak Chief Minister’s office on January 1, 2015,” he said via text message yesterday.
When pressed further on his new role, Juanda replied: “It is not nice for me to overshadow the authorities (in making any announcement).
“Let me report for duty first before anything.”
Juanda was appointed as Perlis Mufti on a loan basis from the Sarawak state government.
Prior to his appointment as the Perlis Mufti, Juanda had previously served as Sarawak deputy Mufti and the State Islamic Religious Department principal assistant director.
